2025 Spring Regatta Recap

The American Yacht Club hosted its 46th annual Spring Regatta, running a coastal race on May 2nd and both coastal and winward/leeward racing on May 3rd and 4th.
Wind conditions kept the sailors on their toes. On both Friday and Saturday, the wind clocked around completely, providing the remarkable sight of seeing coastal race boats on the same line, two-thirds sailing spinnakers while the leaders were still close-hauled. Tide, pressure gaps, and wind changes all combined to heighten the importance of navigation and strategic decisions.

Rear-Commodore Barry Gold commented, "Once again the flagship inaugural event of the 2025 Long Island Sound racing season was a chance to get out the cobwebs, with great racing, see old friends, and enjoy fabulous onshore entertainment and food. And once again Western Long Island Sound did not disappoint, with wind from almost every direction, with big breeze and no breeze, all in the same race!"

Each day, the racers came off the water to food, drinks, music, and — most importantly — the chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
